A shortcode number is a (usually) 5 digit mobile number that is at the core of your campaign. Cross network shortcodes (such as the ones bundled in with your ZOOMtxt Account) work across all operators/carriers.
Shortcode number can also be connected to special tariffs, for premium SMS. For example receiving a message from 80160 in the UK may result in a £1 charge to the mobile bill of the recipient.
All inbound messages to ZOOMtxt shortcodes are charged at "standard network rate" meaning the user / participant in your campaign will be charged as if he texted a normal phone number.
For all standard marketing campaigns that require best possible reach and highest response, we recommend to use free to receive outbound SMS, i.e. you as the Account holder pay for any outbound messages.
With "Text ZOOM now to 60123", ZOOM is the Top Level Keyword, i.e. the first word that a user will send in their SMS message to your campaign, and 60123 is the special shortcode number that they will send their message to.
Keyword selection is a fine art, start with your brand and keep it short, use alpha characters only.
You will be able to choose your keyword when opening your Account Online or over the phone, and can change your keyword at any stage.
Second level keywords segment your campaign for specific actions, for example
Text ZOOM INFO to 60123
will bring back a standard response, whereas
Text ZOOM TONE to 60123
brings back a free ringtone, from the same ZOOMtxt Account and campaign.
